Health and safety

Health and safety

PHYSIQ is a training tool. It is not a medical service, and nothing it produces is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Before you start

Resistance training is safe and beneficial for most healthy adults. But if any of the following apply to you, please speak to a doctor before starting this or any program:

  • You have a heart condition, chest pain, or have been told you have high blood pressure
  • You are pregnant or recently gave birth
  • You have a joint or bone problem that could be made worse by exercise
  • You are recovering from surgery or a significant injury
  • You take medication that affects your heart rate, blood pressure or balance
  • You are unsure, for any reason, whether exercise is safe for you

What we do with what you tell us

During onboarding we ask whether there are areas we should train around, whether you are currently in pain, and whether you have a health condition that affects exercise.

If you flag an area, we remove movements that load it from your program and offer alternatives. If you report current pain, or a condition you have not been cleared for, we will tell you plainly that it should be looked at by a professional rather than worked around by an app.

This screening is a safety net, not an assessment. It cannot see you, watch you move, or know your history. It is not a substitute for a professional.

While you train

Stop if something hurts. Not muscular effort, which is normal, but sharp, sudden or joint pain. Stop the set, and do not push through it.

Leave a rep or two in reserve on most sets. Our programs target an RPE of 9 at most and never prescribe a true one-rep max. Where your dashboard shows an estimated one-rep max, that is a calculation from your logged sets — not a weight we are telling you to attempt.

If you are new to a movement, start lighter than you think you need to.

Nutrition

Nutrition guidance is optional, general, and aimed at healthy adults. We do not prescribe calorie deficits, macro targets, supplement doses or weight goals.

Onboarding includes two questions about your relationship with eating. If your answers suggest it would not be helpful, we turn numeric guidance off entirely and tell you we have done so. If you are struggling with eating or body image, please speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian — that is genuinely better than any app.

Age

PHYSIQ is for adults aged 18 and over.

In an emergency

If you think you are having a medical emergency, stop and call your local emergency number. Do not contact us first.
